Awesome questions from readers…
I got some questions recently from some readers here, Tony and Claudia. They were really great questions, so I wanted to make a post about them. Here is the unedited text of their questions (and thanks for the compliments too!):
“Your advise and tips are priceless! You have given us more value from your posts than many of those $97 ebooks on affiliate marketing and we thank you so much!
We have a few questions please:
1. Do you still avoid using DocStoc when posting content?
2. Angela backlinks are extremely powerful and have helped us get on page one of Google. Is it absolutely necessary to rewrite an article 10 times and submit them everywhere if you are already on page 1? Can we just use her backlinks for all of our keywords and save time?
3. Your Wordpress themes are very impressive. Where do you find all of these themes? Are they free or paid? Or are these supplied to you from Affiliate Genie?Thank you so much for your help.”
OK, here goes, in order –
1. No, I have not posted to docstoc in a while only because they kill your links. It gets some great rankings, but it just makes me angry when I see that I get 600 views and maybe 5 click throughs (because they would have to cut and paste the URL to their browser).
I am getting some really good rankings from articlesbase.com and ezinearticles, but I am also getting some great rankings and traffic from scribd.com, yudu.com and calameo.com – these are the primary ones I am using.
2. Angelas backlinks are powerful, I love them! It’s not necessary to rewrite an article 10 times to get on Page 1, BUT let’s say you do that and hold 5 of the top 10 spots on Page 1 with different rewritten versions – you have a much better chance of getting the click and the sale this way. So, while its not necessary, it helps long term.
What I like to do is get a piece of content out there, ping it, social bookmark it and submit its RSS feed, then build maybe 10-20 links to it and let it simmer for a week or so, then check the rankings. While I am letting it simmer, I move on to either 1) the same keyword but rewritten article (and go through the whole ping, social bookmark, RSS and links) OR 2) my next keyword with the same process.
After it simmers, if I am not ranking, I take the same piece of content (the 1st one), and go through the process again, then let it simmer, etc. And I just keep cycling through my keywords this way.
It can get confusing and you have to keep it all in a spreadsheet or something, but it makes you get content out there continuously – and the more you have typically the better.
3. Some are from Affiliate Genie and some are free Wordpress themes. I have never paid for a Wordpress theme. There are just too many free ones out there. And to be honest, I have no favorite sites I use for free ones, I typically do a Google search for the theme of my site + “free Wordpress theme.” I think with the bamboo one I did a search for “bamboo free wordpress theme” and “asian free wordpress theme.” I probably looked at about 15 of them before I chose that one.
Bamboo Patio Shades is a free wordpress theme and so are www.verticalburst.com, www.transformyourchild.net, and www.boilremedies.com – some other sites I have done.
I use Affiliate Genie for www.learnelectricguitaronline.net and a new one I just put together at www.anxietymanagementhelp.com – yes, I am telling you my niches, but I don’t really care because 1) it helps you out and 2) they are pretty well entrenched (also, if you check out the anxiety one you can see a video of ME talking about anxiety – don’t make too much fun of me!)
I started using Affiliate Genie about a three months ago and am really liking it because I can put up sites quickly and they are geared towards affiliate marketers. They also have a lot of Wordpress functionality built into them so the search engines are ranking them pretty quickly.
And yes, these are affiliate links in this post for Affiliate Genie because its something I feel I can wholeheartedly recommend – and it helps me keep all of this stuff free!
Anyway, I didn’t mean for this to get long-winded. I hope it helps and if you have any other questions, please let me know.

OMG MAT….just one word comes to mind….AWESOME!
You have connected a lot of dots in our “once upon a time” web of confusion and now we have a clear concise plan of action!
There are many gurus who would have never shared their niches and websites but you did it because you have confidence in yourself and your hard work.
And your process of possibly owning more than one position on the first page of Google with your rewritten articles makes so much sense now! Just because you are in position #1 doesn’t always guarantee you the sale!
You are our hero! We believe that when you give, good things ALWAYS come back to you.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
WOW! I am truly flattered (and blushing)! I am so glad it helped. I love seeing when it starts to click with people! Thank you so much for the kind words, you made my day!
Matt and everyone else,
I was looking at Angela backlinks awhile back. What is her stuff about?
I know she sends you places to get links, but are they really actually good?
I was about to order her stuff but saw that the price was fairly low, so I figured it wasn’t good. The reason I ask, is I ordered something like this which gave me a list of forums where you would place a link to your site from the profile page and I don’t think that would really be effective for the effort.
Can anyone give me a just a few of her recommended links so I can see if its worth it?
Any advice would be great,
-Eric
Hey Eric,
I can tell you that they are VERY effective. And your comment about listing your links in the Signature or About Me sections of different forums, etc is absolutely correct. That’s what her links are basically – places on high PR sites to place your links. The actual site itself may have a PR of 7 let’s say and when you place your links in their forum or in your profile that high PR carries to your site so to speak.
The actual forum itself may not have a high PR but it does not necessarily matter, what matters is the PR of the main site. On the face of it, it seems like it would not be effective, but it is actually very effective at getting you ranked. It is also a pretty common backlinking strategy.
Don’t let her price fool you either, she gives out great links and I really am not sure how she only charges $5 per month – it’s one of those rare good deals online.
Try it out for a month or two and build links to pages or sites for keywords you want to rank for or get a boost for and you’ll see what I mean.
I don’t want to give away her sites, but some other ones that I have used are:
http://www.sici.org
forum.developers.facebook.com
interact.webstandards.org
ringlink.org
javaworld.com
redstate.com
You have to sign up for the forum and then in your user profile list your links. I usually only put in 3-4 links per username on each site.
Then I keep track of the URL of my public profile for each site (the one where you see my links when not logged in to the site), and I ping each of these URL’s about about 5-6 different pinging services.
I then take each of the URL’s and create an RSS feed out of them at http://www.html2rss.com and submit the RSS feed to about 5-10 RSS aggregators.
Try it out, I think you’ll like the boost it gives you.
Hey Matt:
Great stuff as always…
My head is swimming at the moment because everything is alien to me.
I suppose I never knew I had to ping an article….
And I also never understood social book marking…I am guessing your not talking about twitter
And I understand what an rss feed in…but do you make an rss feed for every article…and who do you submit this rss feed too?
Hey Phill, good to hear from you buddy.
I generally go through a process on just about every piece of content I put online. I ping it, then social bookmark it, then submit its RSS feed to the RSS aggregators. I do it simply to get my content noticed and indexed faster, and hopefully ranking faster (and higher). Pinging let’s the search engines know that there is new content, social bookmarking (no, not twitter – SB sites are sites like Digg.com, Propeller.com) builds a backlink and gets the search engines to your content, and the RSS feed kind of does the same as social bookmarking.
Check out this post I did about a month ago and hopefully it will clear things up a bit for you. And let me know if it helps.

Matt:
I do not have the cash to get the products you listed in the article…but as I start making sales I will invest in them…really wish I could afford UAW. But I spend money on WA and my email hosting sight…other than that I can not afford anything else at the moment.
BUT…I did everything else you listed in the articles an let me tell you…
Up until last night my greatest day on my new blog promoting a product I created…was 10…
That was 17 articles with over a thousand views averaging about 10% click through rate…over 2 to 3 months at Ezine…plus I was using twitter to announce new articles and stuff…
Plus a week ago I did some youtube videos with links to my sight in them…
Out of all that work I was averaging about 5 or so people to the sight…and made one sale…with 179 people visiting my sales page…which is only until about a couple weeks ago really were I am at least happy with it at some level.
OK got the picture right…
THEN…I came across an email you sent and I came back to your blog and after posting the question I traced back and found the one you referenced above.
I did not re-write any new articles only used the process with the old articles I had…picked the first four articles i wrote last night and began to learn what you taught.
I only promoted the articles on my blog and not the ones I have at ezine…they are the same content…
OK…
Took me a few hours to organize and understand what I was doing…and got the entire process in my tool bar…so i click them in order of operation…
I went from 10 being my highest day…
To 91 by close of Google analytic s…and that was not even a full day…
Of course I am not getting near the play today but I will now work through the last of my articles over the weekend and then begin the process of creating new articles…
I say all that to say this…THANK YOU
Hey Phill, I have to keep this short because I am posting from my phone! But just wanted to say congrats on the progress and that is AWESOME to hear it is going well!
Thanks Matt, I think I might give it a try with one of my newer sites and see what it does.
Thanks
-Eric
